If your roof is seriously damaged or worn out, it may not be able to make it through another winter. Having your roof fail in the middle of a cold and snowy winter can be a nightmare. If you’re concerned about the condition of your roof, you should consider installing a new one now. Replacing your roof in winter may be possible if the conditions are right, but doing the job when the weather is too cold can lead to problems.
How Winter Weather Can Impact Roof Replacement
According to roofing shingle manufacturers, a full roof replacement should not be done if the outdoor temperature is 40 degrees Fahrenheit or below throughout the day. If it’s below 40 degrees in the morning and then the temperature rises, contractors can replace a roof. If, however, the morning temperature is at or below 40 degrees and it gets below 40 degrees later, replacing a roof under those conditions can lead to problems.
Cold temperatures cause roofing shingles to become brittle. If contractors nail brittle shingles, nails can go right through them. Instead of having the necessary six nails, shingles may have only two. Shingles that aren’t properly secured can blow off, which can make your home susceptible to roof leaks.
This is why LaBrusciano Roofing & Exteriors doesn’t perform full roof replacements in temperatures below 40 degrees. Many other roofing companies do, however, despite the problems it can cause.
Have Your Roof Replaced before Winter
If you don’t think your roof will be able to survive the upcoming winter, you should have it replaced before the weather gets too cold. That can help you avoid a major problem and give you peace of mind since you won’t have to worry about replacing your roof in winter.
A member of the team at LaBrusciano Roofing & Exteriors can inspect your roof, note any damage, figure out how serious it is, and tell you if the roof can be repaired or if it should be replaced.
